A picture book entitled Nihon no Hana (i.e., Flowers of Japan) was published in 1946 as part of a series entitled Shikashū (i.e., Anthology of Contemporary Japan). It included thirty woodblock-printed pictures of flowers drawn by the following four artists: Kōshirō Onchi (1891-1955), Hide Kawanishi (1894-1965), Senpan Maekawa (1888-1960) and Sumio Kawakami (1895-1972). All four artists drew their flower subjects in a creative way so flower shape and (or) color were not true-to-life. Their thirty pictures are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
